Tuesday Photo Challenge – Round Up 41

Lost and found!

Welcome to this week’s round up, of the 41st installment of the Tuesday Photo Challenge.  Once again, you blew me away with the volume and quality of your entries, as the response to the theme of Abandoned was just fantastic!!

There were a variety of interpretations to this theme, ranging from urban decay to lost objects and boats that were blown all over the place.  Great images all around and wonderful posts!  It’s great to see this much creativity being generated!

This is an image that I have shared before, as this couch was just left by the side of the road…

The Red Couch

The part of this image that struck me funny is what I left out…if I had panned wide you would see the sign for the entrance to the town dump.  This couch almost made it over there!

The following were this week’s participants in the challenge with links to their posts:

  • The Black Body blog was first out of the starting blocks with a very cool image using an abandoned umbrella.
  • Leaking Ink went way back with some abandoned computer paraphernalia that used to be everywhere!
  • Charles’ post in charlesewaugh not only brings us a wonderful abandoned building, but also takes us through some of his photographic process, which is very interesting.
  • Ron’s post Progressing into Solitude brings us amazing images of a bygone era.
  • Xenia shows us more whipper fun in WhippetWisdom with a tanka and image of a place from way back!
  • Cee brings us a beautiful blend of texture and abandonment in Cee’s Photography.
  • The post in Windmill takes us back to abandoned property and shows a rather interesting projector.
  • Meghan’s post in Whistle While You Wait brings us a stunning image of an old, abandoned church in Harper’s Ferry.
  • ladyleemanila share her grandmother’s abandoned nipa hut with us.
  • Paul’s post in Mini on Tour brings us an abandoned boat, which is still marked as private…
  • Stella takes us to a 700 year old castle in her post in Giggles & Tales; it’s a really interesting set of images!
  • Pam Snaps … Photos brings us a very unusual look with an abandoned dragline!
  • The post in Travel387 shows us a gorgeous shot taken from a station.
  • pensitivity101 brings us an abandoned boat… it clearly needs some oars and water!
  • Andrea’s post in ARHtistic License shows us what can be abandoned by folks…
  • Tisha brings us some of her favorite abandoned items in Found Round & About; great shots!
  • Emily finds a comfortable desk chair next to a park bench in Zombie Flamingoes; quirky…
  • Speaking of quirky: a pile of flipflops is featured in iball round the world‘s; a very cool and intriguing image!
  • Miriam’s exploration brought her to some of the victims of hurricane Rita in her entry in The Showers of Blessing: boats, which can’t find the water.
  • Sonya captures the demolition of a (hopefully) abandoned building in Middleton Road in a great image.
  • Nikki’s images in her post in Flying Through Water are a beautiful study; go check them out!
  • Steve brings the hauntingly beautiful side of urban decay to us in his post in Steve Newcomb Photography.
  • Miriam’s post in her Out an’ About is a must read and see, as she tells us a tale with text and gorgeous photos!
  • Debbie brings us the connection between forgiving  and abandon in her post in ForgivingConnects; a great read!!
  • Judith managed to bridge two weeks’ themes in her post in Nature Knows Best; quite a feat!
  • Khürt’s post in his blog Island in the Net really captures the sense of abandonment perfectly; definitely go check it out!

Thanks again to all for your wonderful posts!  Now, to work on tomorrow’s theme…

A Fresh Perspective Photography is more than just a vehicle for capturing the world around me; it provides me with a palette and a set of brushes, with which I paint not only what I see, but also look to express the emotions that are evoked by the scene in front of me in that moment. Growing up in the Netherlands exposed me to a wide cross-section of visual arts that laid the foundation of my photographic view of all that surrounds me. Early influences were the Dutch Masters of the 17th century, to whom I was introduced by my grandfather during museum explorations; favorites among them are the scenes of quotidian life depicted by Jan Steen and Frans Hals and the vivid landscapes of Jacob van Ruisdael. My classical high school education was supplemented by the Boijmans Van Beuningen museum, where I spent many a lunch hour exploring its great collection. Here I was introduced to surrealism with a particular love for the approach taken by Salvador Dali; Dali also rekindled my appreciation for the work of Hieronymus Bosch, who often showed the folly of us mortals. Universal Connections My approach to any photographic subject is to look for understanding first; in this I look to establish either a connection between the viewer and the subject or capture the connection of the subject with its surroundings. The captured image then aims to portray this connection from a perspective that is part of my personal interpretation. This interpretation is often a form of externalized introspection, which may alternately display the connection of isolated beings and items with their environment or highlight the whimsy of the profound world, in which we find ourselves. The universe is full of connections, many of which are waiting to be discovered; part of my journey as a photographer is to document these connections. Any assignment, be it an event, a product shoot or a portrait session is always approached through communication with the client; this is where the first connection is established. Ideas are exchanged and a collaborative plan of action forms, ultimately resulting in a set of images that aim to exceed the expectations of each client. And, lest we forget, it is important to have fun while practicing the serious business of photography!

    1. Sorry about that; I’ll add you in a bit. For some reason, I have not been able to get linkbacks to approve automatically regardless of settings; I need to spend a couple of hours of digging to get that resolved.

      1. Thanks for checking. I noticed some issues with trackbacks yesterday. I linked to one of my previous entries on my own blog and the ping only showed up this morning. Weird.
