In last week’s post title ‘A Product Photography Challenge‘, I wrote about a reasonably successful shoot with some cheap sunglasses. Another area I have dabbled in a bit is food photography, as I do like food and love the challenge of putting together a shot that makes the food the hero!
Of course sometimes that means I put together a rather odd combination of foods, such as in this shot…
Yes, I hear you say that these two can be combined in a really healthy smoothie! You’re right, but the real reason that I chose this pairing is the color contrast between the red and the green. And, yes, the cutting board was a conscious choice to take advantage of the leading lines to help connect the hero and the supporting cast!
This was another one for a class, so I took a shot of my setup…
This setup used to Canon Speedlite 580EXII flashes. The one on the left (A) is in a soft box and the flash behind the cutting board (B) has Cinefoil to control exactly where the light will fall. On the right hand side, there is also a reflector to soften up the light from that side. The flash ratio between A and B flashes is 3:1.
Hope you enjoyed this exploration into food photography!
