Tuesday Photo Challenge – Healthy

Make a healthy choice!

Welcome to Week 55 of the Tuesday Photo Challenge.  Now that we’re well and true into the 2nd year, I still have to pinch myself every time I see the wonderful posts that each of you contribute to this challenge every week.

Last week’s challenge theme of RGB evoked some stunning images with unbridled creativity, for which I thank each of you!

This week, I struggled a bit to come up with a theme that I think might be worthy of all of your talents and creativity.  When I get stuck, I usually resort to looking through lots of my images for a glint of inspiration, which worked again!  Looking at this simple composition of a strawberry on a cutting board with some kale in the background, gave me the idea for the theme: Healthy!

As you well know, the only request I have is for you to have fun with the theme and just let your creativity flow.  Use your imagination to share a great view with us of what healthy means to you.  Of course, this can go in a myriad of directions, which I look forward to seeing from you!!

Here’s the image that provided me with a bit of inspiration for this week…

Strawberry and Kale

As I was taking a food photography course with the assignment to use light coming from the behind the subject; this has the benefit of producing some nice highlights on this lovely organic strawberry.  Even though the strawberry is the hero in this shot, I wanted to connect it to the kale, for which this cutting board provided just what I needed.

The full rules of this challenge are in TPC Guidelines, but here’s the tl;dr:

  • Write a post with an image for this week’s topic
  • Please tag your post with fpj-photo-challenge (if you’re not sure about how tags work, please check out this WordPress article about tagging posts)
  • Create a pingback link to this post, so that I can create a post showing all of the submissions over the week (note: pingbacks may not appear immediately, as my site is set up to require approval for linking to it; helps against previous bad experiences with spamming)
  • Have fun creating something new (or sharing something old)!!

Very much looking forward to all of your great images!  Should be a fun week!

Warped Wednesday – pt. 4

Ghost ships on the water…

Part of my thinking behind this series of posts is to get a bit of feedback from all of the readers, which should help me formulate a crisper view on my photography.  It’s been very heartening to see your thoughts on some of my abstract images, so I thought I’d also mix something a little different in this week.

As the Tuesday Photo Challenge has the theme of Abandoned, this week’s Warped Wednesday image kind of fits pretty well…

Flying Dutchman

This is an image that I took during a bit of urban exploration a number of years ago in Westborough, Massachusetts.  This is inside the farm that was part of the state hospital (I say was, as this building has been razed).

When I chanced upon this interior, I immediately had a sense of being inside the hold of a ghost ship, devoid of life and stripped bare; somewhere, there was the foreboding that all could come back in an instant: crew, canons and full ship to ship combat.

That’s why I decided on a 5 shot HDR series that I processed in a rather stark fashion, using a grungy look to get the desired effect.

I’m curious to find out how this image speaks to you.
