Tuesday Photo Challenge – Round Up 17

Blue with great clues!

This week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge definitely saw an explosion of fantastic blue-themed images from many of you!  It was also wonderful to see a significant number of first-time participation, letting me know that Blue is a great color!

What caught my eye in looking at the variety of photography that was showcased this week, is that the blues ranged from extremely intense to muted and very understated.  A truly beautiful range of expressions of a single color!

For your entertainment, another of my varied blue images..

Geothermal Pool

From my short trip to Iceland, the lighter blues of the geothermal pool made for an almost subtropical feel in this image at the arctic circle.

The following were this week’s participants in the challenge with links to their posts:

  • Marisa, The Girl That Dreams Awake provided beautiful blues ranging from sky to door.
  • Georgie, whose blog Third Time Lucky! is a lot of fun to read, showed off some of the gorgeous blue of Greece and the sea!
  • Snips & Snaps from a Southampton Old Lady featured a fantastic array of blue wood from the English coast.
  • Emily’s, in her blog Zombie Flamingos took us on a morning walk to discover some blue hues.
  • Sunshine, in the Daily Blabber, showed us a beautiful Japanese Magnolia against a blue sky!
  • James, of the James McEwan blog, where fiction illuminates truth, combined a poem with a lovely photo for this challenge.
  • Mack, in the really beautiful blog mackmarie, showed us the beautiful Bora Bora blues in her post about her honeymoon location.
  • Judith in her blog Nature Knows Best enriched us with both natural and human-manufactured blues of note!
  • Debbie, whose blog is Forgiving Journal, found the sacred space of forgiveness in her post!
  • Steve, in his blog Steve Newcomb Photography, found some excellent blue signage and a beautiful stratocaster!
  • Nikki, not to be outdone in  A Kinder Way, showed us the blue of relaxation through a wonderful riesling!

I hope that I got everyone’s posts! Go check out each other’s posts and enjoy the wonderful range of expressions that we find!

I have somewhat of a twisted (appropriately) topic in mind for the next challenge…

A Fresh Perspective Photography is more than just a vehicle for capturing the world around me; it provides me with a palette and a set of brushes, with which I paint not only what I see, but also look to express the emotions that are evoked by the scene in front of me in that moment. Growing up in the Netherlands exposed me to a wide cross-section of visual arts that laid the foundation of my photographic view of all that surrounds me. Early influences were the Dutch Masters of the 17th century, to whom I was introduced by my grandfather during museum explorations; favorites among them are the scenes of quotidian life depicted by Jan Steen and Frans Hals and the vivid landscapes of Jacob van Ruisdael. My classical high school education was supplemented by the Boijmans Van Beuningen museum, where I spent many a lunch hour exploring its great collection. Here I was introduced to surrealism with a particular love for the approach taken by Salvador Dali; Dali also rekindled my appreciation for the work of Hieronymus Bosch, who often showed the folly of us mortals. Universal Connections My approach to any photographic subject is to look for understanding first; in this I look to establish either a connection between the viewer and the subject or capture the connection of the subject with its surroundings. The captured image then aims to portray this connection from a perspective that is part of my personal interpretation. This interpretation is often a form of externalized introspection, which may alternately display the connection of isolated beings and items with their environment or highlight the whimsy of the profound world, in which we find ourselves. The universe is full of connections, many of which are waiting to be discovered; part of my journey as a photographer is to document these connections. Any assignment, be it an event, a product shoot or a portrait session is always approached through communication with the client; this is where the first connection is established. Ideas are exchanged and a collaborative plan of action forms, ultimately resulting in a set of images that aim to exceed the expectations of each client. And, lest we forget, it is important to have fun while practicing the serious business of photography!
