Daily Prompt – Shadow

Welcome some shade

Today’s WordPress Daily Prompt is Shadow.  For a photographer, shadow is indispensable, as we thrive on writing with the shadows…

Shadowcaster: YogaTree

The YogaTree is a magnificent shadowcaster, as she stands proud against the light during Winter’s cold mornings.  She keeps her energy in reserve, as she’ll later use it to fill out her Summer’s dress and provide welcome shadows to protect from Sun’s harsh rays…

Hope you enjoy this image!

Friday Travel Photos – vol 15

A taste of Scotland

You may have gathered that our 2013 vacation in Scotland was really enjoyed by both my wife and I, as an all-round great vacation for many reasons.  Along with today’s photo selection I’ll write a little bit about those reasons.

Of course, one cannot argue with the landscape, as it is truly stunning in many ways and continually surprises with every change of the light.  Even though in our 12 days we got to see great variety, there is so much more to explore, as we barely touched on the islands and didn’t go north beyond Loch Ness.

There are many wonderful little towns around Scotland, where we found the people always friendly and welcoming.  Staying at Bed-and-Breakfasts was a great choice, as we met more people that way than staying at hotels.  Every experience we had was nothing but positive, whether it was at the inn in Plockton, where we stopped for coffee and they provided us coffee and a snack even though they weren’t open yet, or the interaction with locals and tourists at a fantastic pub in Oban (best whisky!!).

And don’t let people fool you about the food, as we ate nothing but wonderful meals throughout our stay ranging from fresh salmon right out of Loch Linnhe in Fort William to a delicious Tikka Masala!

The historic sites are magnificent!  Anywhere you go in Scotland there are beautiful sites, that are either accessible for free or for a very reasonable rate, which usually includes a tour of the property.

Then there’s the wildlife!  This is a bit tongue in cheek, as there’s still a mystery bird that we haven’t seen: the puffin.  One of my wife’s requests was to see puffins, for which purpose we took a trip to the island of Staffa…only to find seagulls!  We were just unlucky, as shifting winds do cause them to go out to sea in mass.

There’s much more to write and share with you about this magnificent country and its people, but I don’t want to bore you 🙂

WPC – Future Non Sequitur

Time stands still

This week’s theme for the DailyPost Weekly Photo Challenge is Future, urging us to focus on the potential of things to come.  I am planning to post several images throughout the week, with today’s image giving us the opportunity to examine multiple timelines.

Timeline Non Sequitur

If you have ever wondered about the continuity of timelines and whether or not time travel is possible, you can look into this scene and wonder even more…  When I saw this collection of items from various times in history presented by this old power canal that used to enable the mills on its shores to operate,  I was stunned!

It is almost, as if someone went to different times to collect items that they fancied seeing in their backyard.  Time stands still here, as the airplane hangs in mid-air, waiting for the next tick and tock of the universal clock…

After capturing this image, I stepped through the portal very quietly and returned to the regular flow of time.

There will be a break…

Breaking bonds

The Winter of 2014 presented us with an extended period of extreme cold that created enough ice to make it possible to traverse the large reservoir next to our town.  This image is from early in this freezing period, as wind had driven part of the ice cover against the shore, causing this lovely pattern.

The ice may be daunting, but it too shall be broken and relinquish its grip.

Aeolus Rules

As the final image in this week’s landscape series, I’m bringing out a little late-December beauty pose struck by none other than my sweet Yoga Tree.  She stands proud reaching for skies that are moving at high velocity, as driven by the god of the winds himself.

Hope you enjoyed the set this week.  Did you have any favorites?

Shot of the Week – vol 11

Bucolic moment

After a short hiatus, it’s back: the shot of the week!!  Well, almost, as you’ll see.

Farm equipment

While this is not quite a shot of the week, as I captured this 104 weeks ago, which makes it a shot of this week.

I’m always attracted to farming, probably because, when I was young, we lived near some farms for a number of years, and I wound up spending itme on them helping out.  I always enjoyed the sense of being in touch with the land and nature, something that appears to have gotten lost quite a bit in today’s society.

Little farm scenes, such as this one, always catch my eye, particularly on a morning with light as beautiful as it is in this image.

Hope you enjoy!

Goðafoss Waterfall

One of the beautiful aspects of Iceland are its waterfalls.  As I stayed in the northern part of Iceland, near Akureyri, I found my way to the lovely waterfall of Goðafoss.

This waterfall is accessed rather easily from the main road and main access to the view is set up on the west bank of the falls.  After a bit of exploring, I found a path to a nice low vantage point, which allowed me to set up for this shot.

Hope you like it.
