One of my favorite places to visit in our area is New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston, Massachusetts, as this wonderful location never fails to inspire me, offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The garden’s meticulously curated landscapes present a breathtaking array of flora, allowing visitors to saunter through vibrant displays of colorful flowers, lush greenery, and seasonal plants that transform with each passing month.

Over the past 17 years, I have captured many a photograph at Tower Hill, so why not kick off a series of these photos, which I will loosely title “Patterns in Nature”? As a photographer, I always look for opportunities to present what I see through the lens in a manner that connects to what I envision in my mind of that particular scene. Capturing the forms, shapes, and intricate patterns that are presented to us by Nature is one theme that always intrigues me, and this has led me to much experimentation and playful interaction with the subject matter. Each visit to Tower Hill unveils a new canvas where the light dances on leaves, shadows paint the ground, and the wind whispers through the branches, creating a symphony of visual elements that demand to be captured. The subtle changes of each season offer a wealth of inspiration; from the vibrant colors of autumn foliage to the delicate frost of winter mornings, I find myself constantly excited to adapt my techniques and perspective. As I delve deeper into this exploration, I aim not only to showcase the beauty that surrounds us but also to evoke a sense of wonder and appreciation for the intricate designs crafted by Nature itself.

Let’s kick the series off with this image from this past week…

Blossom Aperture

The attraction of this simple, yet beautiful flower resides in the soft, gentle tones of the blossom, which is in various levels of opening up its petals to the entire world. The delicate hues range from the purest white to a subtle cream, creating a stunning visual symphony that captivates all who pass by. Its various tones of white against the shades of green in its leaves are sure to invite pollinators for a short yet, so important visit. As bees and butterflies flutter around, drawn by the sweet aroma and the promise of nectar, the flower transforms into a vibrant hub of activity, playing a crucial role in the ecosystem. Each bloom not only adds to the charm of its surroundings but also contributes to the cycle of life, showcasing nature’s intricate design and the interconnectedness of all living beings.

Photographed with a Fujifilm X-H2 using a Fujinon XF80mm F2.8 lens. Camera settings were F8.0 with a shutter speed of 1/170 second at 400 ISO.
