Time for a revival of my entries into the Monday Window, as there is no shortage of windows that I captured along my travels. This week I’m bringing you along on my first trip to Egypt in 2025, an adventure that left an indelible mark on my heart. On this trip, my wife and I went on a magnificent Viking Nile cruise, which I can recommend heartily to anyone interested in exploring the wonders of ancient Egypt. The cruise provided us with a unique perspective of the Nile, allowing us to witness the serene beauty of the river and the bustling life that unfolds along its banks. Each port we stopped at was steeped in history, from the imposing temples of Karnak and Luxor to the mesmerizing Valley of the Kings, where the tombs of the pharaohs lie in captivating silence. As we sailed, we were not just passengers on a boat; we became part of a vibrant tapestry woven from the landscapes, temples, and stories that echo through the ages, making this journey one that we will cherish forever.
The first couple of days of the trip had us starting in Cairo, and traveling to Giza and Saqqara. This was a fitting introduction to this wonderful and ancient country, steeped in history and vibrant culture. The mantra during this voyage was one of “tomorrow is even better than today,” which was definitely delivered, as Egypt is nothing short of spectacular with each location being even more inspiring than the one before. As we stood in the shadow of the Great Pyramids, marveling at their grandeur and considering the incredible engineering feats required to erect these majestic structures thousands of years ago, we were filled with awe and reverence. Similarly, the sprawling ruins of Saqqara offered a glimpse into the past, as we explored the step pyramid and wandered among the remnants of ancient tombs. The cumulative effect of visiting Egypt is one of drawing one back to go see even more, which I did this year, eager to uncover new treasures and immerse myself in the rich tapestry of Egyptian heritage that never ceases to captivate the heart and mind.

This mosque in Cairo is a stunning site to visit, as its architecture and religious significance is sure to leave you filled with awe. The mosque, known as the Muhammad Ali Mosque, was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha, a prominent 19th-century ruler who aimed to modernize Egypt, and was built between 1832 and 1857. Its grand domes, intricate minarets, and elegant courtyards showcase a beautiful blend of Ottoman and local architectural styles, making it a true masterpiece. Additionally, it sits majestically within the Cairo Citadel, a fortress that has played a crucial role in Egypt’s history. The Citadel not only enhances the mosque’s beauty but also provides a stunning panoramic view of the bustling city of Cairo, where you can witness the vibrant life of the city unfold below, from the majestic Nile River to the bustling streets filled with shops and cafes, all contributing to an unforgettable experience.
