Daily Prompt – Transformation

Change might be constant

Today’s theme in the WordPress Daily Prompt is Transformation.  Of course, there’s more than one angle to take on this topic, so I decided to go into the landscape direction for this one.

Transformation happens in Nature quite regularly, as seasons, weather and time combine to draw ever changing scenery around us.  Some changes are almost imperceptible, while others are quite dramatic.

Blue Pond

In ‘Blue Pond‘, we see a number of factors come together, as the Winter season has left its mark, while weather and time have changed the trees around the pond.  Nature draws us a complex tableau with beauty in many elements.

Hope you enjoy!

Daily Prompt – Embarrassing

Red-faced?

Here’s a Daily Prompt that made me think about what I wanted to present… Embarrassing is not something that I strive for in my photography, as it is not a great moment to capture most of the time.

Then it came to me….

That’s Embarrassing!

Yes, humanity’s ability to just dump their unwanted belongings anywhere is rather embarrassing…  Even more so in this case, as this was deposited no more than 50 feet from the town dump…

Weather Is Coming

Dark clouds

Despite all of humanity’s advances, there is still an element of dependence on the weather, that is inescapable even in today’s high-technology age.

As a significant portion of our food supply comes from agriculture, it is important to reduce our adverse impact on weather patterns as much as possible; the ability of future generations to feed themselves may depend on it.

The tractor sits quietly to see what the morning will bring: will it clear up and be ideal for mowing or will these clouds bring heavy rain, thus stalling progress.

Time will tell…

Daily Prompt – Circus

Coulrophobia

Sometimes, it is fun to just take a silly photo, because the opportunity is there!  Such was the case when I took this image:

Skowhegan-20140727_57A8536
Clowns abound!

I was photographing at an agility trial held on the fairgrounds in Skowhegan, Maine, which is always a blast; it is one of the agility trials that my wife and I have attended for many years, and we consider it our home trial away from home (it’s a 5 hour drive 🙂 ).  One of the fun aspects of this agility trial is that there is a real sense of camaraderie, as folks camp on the fairgrounds and congregate after the running of the dogs is done.

With this atmosphere comes a penchant for kidding each other, which is where this clown comes in; one of the competitors has a mild case of coulrophobia, so clowns tend to show up in all sorts of places.  As I walked over to do a photoshoot with one of her dogs, what do I notice?  You guessed it: this clown.

Daily Prompt – Fork

Eat a dish of this!

With a prompt along the nature of Fork, as is suggested today by the WordPress Daily Prompt, there are many ways that we can go.  Without speaking with forked tongue, we can look at the fork in the road,  while some of us geeks might talk about forking a process on the computer (ask a geek what that means 🙂 ).

Then again, I might do something rather simple, although this was not my original image that I thought to use, as I will use that in another post about conceptual photography.

Stick a fork in it!

Then I thought that it might be a good idea to stick a fork in it!  And eat that dish of macaroni and cheese, as I’m hungry!

Hope you enjoy this fork!!

Daily Prompt – Grain

The grain on the plain…

When I saw today’s WordPress Daily Post prompt of Grain, I immediately thought about the photographic interpretation of grain, which we don’t always appreciate.  Then, of course, there is the grain that grows in the fields, which we do apprciate, as it is a wonderful part of our diet.

The next thought was whether or not I have a photo that has grain in it with a little bit of grainy texture…

Yoga Tree in Autumn

Of course, finding an image of the Yoga Tree with both grains in it is even better!  This is definitely one of my favorite images of the lovey lady standing proud in Autumn in front of a field that still has some grain in it.

And this week’s bonus feature of…Clouds!

Hope you enjoy!

Daily Prompt – Phase

A phase of growth

In today’s Daily Prompt, the word given is Phase.  Of course, the first thought that may cross one’s mind is likely to be moon-related, as we deal with the phases of the moon on a regular basis.

Then there could be the phase that one is going through, particularly said when referring to tantrums by children; sometimes that may actually be wishful thinking 🙂  One could also be out of phase, or experience phase distortion.

Then again, when I thought of phase, this image came to mind:

Phases

There are multiple stages of phases of development between grass, flowers and trees.  But if you look carefully, you also notice the dilapidation of the road surface in the right side of the image, going toward a phase of destruction.

Embrace the phases in your life and all life that surrounds you!  Breathe them in and enjoy the moment, in which you find yourself.

Daily Prompt – Dream

Resisting Escape

A quick glance at today’s Daily Prompt showed me an interesting one: Dream.  Of course, if we look at the URL, it implies fairy tale.

Some of our most interesting and intense concepts come from dreams during that mysterious state during our sleep cycles when our brain provides stimuli, which generate visions of phantasmagorical character.  Tales of mystery and imagination spring forth from these times, some of which have survived across the ages.

Resisting Escape

Most of us will have had dreams, in which we take flight, sometimes beneficent in the freedom that we experience during such times, while at other times the flight can be frightening, as we’re being pulled into a hellish nightmare…

This image was composited using a number of shots with a Canon EOS 5D Mk III using an EF 17-40 f/4L lens.  When I saw this bathroom, I had an immediate vision of what I wanted to achieve in the image, with the woman being pulled into an alternate reality that she is trying to escape from.  The cloud cover was shot about 4 months later than the bathroom scene, when I noticed the type of sky that I wanted to for the final image.

Hope you enjoy this moment.

Daily Prompt – Buddy

Buddy’s are the best!

Today’s WordPress Daily Prompt brought by the word Buddy!  Of course, all of you know where I’m going with this, as there is no truer friend than a four-legged friend!

Of course, it is impossible to pick a favorite from among our dogs, as that is akin to selecting a favorite child.  So for this prompt, I’m going with our oldest dog, Darwin.

Darwin having fun!

This photo is from about 5 years ago, when he was only 9 years old!  At his current age of 14-1/2 years, he sleeps a bit more, but still knows how to have fun and play, which is amazing.  He may have some health issues at this time, but we’ve got those well in hand, and, as long as his quality of life is good, our buddy, Darwin will continue to live forever!  (I know that I can’t have that wish…)

Do you have a buddy like this?

Daily Prompt – Survival

Natural survivalist

As today’s Daily Prompt asked us to look at Survival, my first thought went to examples from Nature, as there are so many stories there…

2016-02-05 07.41.14 HDR-1
Yoga Tree in Winter

In my book, trees are the ultimate survivalists, as they can, in some cases, stand across the centuries, despite all that weather can throw at them: wind, cold, heat, drought…

The Yoga Tree is a shining example of this endurance, who has inspired me over the years; she may not be centuries old, but she has not only survived the harsh New England climatic extremes, but also wrapped herself around the oil tank that was stacked up right next to her.  She shows her adaptation to the prevailing winds and all that she had to conquer, in a proud stance, as she reaches up to the sky, almost in defiance to what may be thrown at her.

Do you have a survivor in Nature that inspires you?
