A walk through Boston

A colleague’s long layover in Boston allowed for a photography walk in the Seaport district of Boston, exploring some shooting approaches.

This past week has been pretty busy with face-to-face meetings for our rather distributed organization at headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. Meeting people in person makes a tremendous amount of difference in our level of understanding of each other and increases the overall amount of collaboration across our teams. It was busy, long, tiring and definitely successful!

As one of my co-workers had a 10 hour layover in Boston and had some camera questions, we took the opportunity to do a bit of a photography walk. Here’s one of my shots from that saunter…

Boston Street

As our Boston office is in the Seaport district, it really lends itself to a bit of walking and photography. As we walked through the area, we took the opportunity to look at how to photograph, using leading lines, playing with backlighting subjects, reflections, and such.

This nice little street set up perfectly for some play with leading lines.

Great Wall Moment

A brief glimpse into my trip to China in 2023, as a street vendor prepares his grill for the day’s cooking.

As I checked to see how many photos I have posted from my business trip to China in 2023, I could only find a single post. I will look to remedy this, as this was an amazing journey! First of all, it was great to meet the team of people who I worked with in Beijing, as they are passionate, motivated and welcoming. They made my first visit to China spectacular!

Here’s a moment from one of the outings…

Preparing the Food

This moment occurred as we were walking toward the entrance of the Great Wall visitor area in Huanghuacheng. The sun was in our backs, so I had just walked past this gentleman who was readying his grill for the day. Because of the smoke, I waited to pass him and turned around to have the sun backlight the scene for this wonderful view.

I will share more images from the Great Wall visit in later posts; for now I will share with you that this area is stunning with its combination of wall and lake. It is a beautiful area and the mountainous landscape is a sight to behold.
