Wednesday Window – pt 29

Time to revisit the Mediterranean, reflecting on a 2017 trip to Tuscany’s and the hamlet of Colordesoli. We did find our gelato in the neighboring town of Chiusdino!

We’re staying around the Mediterranean after last week’s excursion to Scotland in our Wednesday Window installment.

Chiusdino Streetview

During our trip to Italy in 2017, we stayed in a small town in Tuscany, named Colordesoli. When I say small, the town of Colordesoli has about 17 residents and is in the municipality of Chiusdino. This photo is from our first day’s exploration, as we needed some gelato, because we’re in Italy. Sauntering around Chiusdino we found a Gelateria and experienced our first bit of charm of the Tuscan hills. It’s just amazing there!

Travel Tuesday

Discover the beautiful views from Massa Marittima, a wonderful Tuscan hill town. Climbing the Torre del Candeliere is worth it!

After last week’s Travel Tuesday post with a bit of a puzzler, I promise that this one is rather straightforward! It’s a change from the low countries, which are mostly flat, to a much hillier environment. This image is from our 2017 vacation in Italy, which featured Ostia Antica, Roma and a number of Tuscan hill towns.

Here’s an image of one of these towns…

Massa Marittima Rooftops

It was a bit of a climb to get to this view, but it was so worth it! In the town of Massa Marittima, we climbed up the hill to reach the Torre del Candeliere. This tower was open to the public and worth scaling to get spectacular views of the town and surrounding land.

Also, when you visit this lovely Tuscan hill town, please go to Il Gatto e la Volpe for lunch (or dinner). My wife and I had a delectable lunch there and, as a special treat, were offered a not on the menu dessert made by the owner’s mother.

Time to Get on the Road!

We’re off on a vacation to Egypt, which will be amazing. So we take a look back at Montepulciano in Tuscany, a stunning hill town!

Yes, today my wife and I take off on another vacation trip! It’ll be our most epic one yet, as we’re off to Egypt! You can be sure that I have packed my camera gear for this trip and will take a decent photo or two. As we’re traveling today and tomorrow, it’s time for a look back at one of our other trips.

Here we go back to 2017…

Montepulciano street

The town of Montepulciano in Tuscany is a lovely hill town in the province of Siena. As a hill town it sits upon a 605 meter limestone ridge and has an amazing wine producing reputation. The wines are delectable!

It’s a historic town that can trace its existence back to Etruscan times, as findings date the original settlement to 400-300 BCE.

The streets and alley-ways make this a great town to explore on foot, so that you walk up an appetite and find yourself a restaurant. I recommend checking out the various alleys for great hospitality and amazing food!
