The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge has the theme of Glow. Definitely a natural fit for quite a bit of my photography, as I enjoy backlit images…

Today’s image is another one from that chilly outing in late January of 2015, along the beaches of the northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire coast. Today’s image is from later in the day, as the Sun started looking for the exit on a rather cold beach.

Its glow backlights the posts that remained standing after the storms…

Cloaked in Silence

The WordPress Daily Prompt has the theme of Cloaked. This is a very interesting topic, as it can range from deep space to simply wearing a cloak (whatever happened to good old-fashioned cloaks with many pockets?)

The one thing that came to mind immediately was one of the images from a beach excursion during January of 2015; we had just had a tremendous amount of snow, which created one of those rare opportunities to photograph the beaches in the snow. The beaches were very much deserted, as it was not great swimming weather; and with the snow, the landscape was silent and beautiful.

With the gorgeous light and frozen scenery, it made for a fantastic day to be out there photographing. With ample layers and warm boots, there was no limit to what we could see!

Welcome to the 76th round up of the Tuesday Photo Challenge! With this installment, I’ll be in sync again this week, which is a good sign!

You’ve certainly come up with some amazing evidence of your creativity and exploring spirit in the contributions that you’ve made to last week’s challenge of Signs! There were some absolute stand-outs and some great humor!! I really enjoyed reading the posts, particularly as there was wonderful variety and plenty of humor; signs seem to bring that opportunity!

I came across this little scene a couple of years ago, as I was enjoying a day of beach and waterfront photography on a very cold, and photographically awesome day! I found the snow on the letters of the word ‘Ice’ to be a bit amusing!

A Look Back – Winter

Cold, yet beautiful

I realize that not many of us look forward to the Winter season, as we tend to prefer the nice warm weather of late Spring, Summer and early Autumn. You may call me crazy, but I do like Winter for its stark beauty and its ability to present me with scenes of serenity.

Diversity of the Earth – pt. 1

Where water and life meet

This weeks WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge has the theme of Earth, which is appropriate, given that Saturday is Earth Day. So I figured that I would do a weeklong series of different views of the Earth that I have experienced. Feel free to join in with the fun!

The first one, highlights some of the interesting aspects of our planet, such as water, a biosphere, temperature variations and the colors green and blue…

This image dates back just over 11 years on a chilly March day in 2006. Due to wind and water movement, the ice tends to creep up on the shores of Wachusett Reservoir, which caused this lone tree on an outcropping to become entangled.

Technical Details

This image was captured with Canon EOS 1D MkII using an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L lens. Exposure settings were at 1/400 second and f/11 with 200 ISO. It was a rather chilly shot!

Searching for meaning among snow…

As we’re watching the snow melt altogether too slowly during this first week of Spring, I cannot help, but think that a bit of green would not be misplaced among all the white and gray…

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will see some, before I travel south once again!

Seasons…

We’re at the stage in Winter when the end is in sight… We know that there may be some storms that come our way, but with Spring just about a month away, the episodes of polar outreach into New England become shorter and shorter. The Sun rises earlier each day and gets a bit warmer, as we enjoy its radiance. We are beginning to feel our bones warming to the thought of surviving yet another season of frigid temperatures!

I, for one, will be sad to see Winter end, but will also be thrilled by the outburst of colors that is brought on by Spring. So let’s take one more look back at Winter’s beauty…

Frosty fractals on twigs made for a fantastic pattern, through which the morning Sun’s rays enchant our eyes. Let’s enjoy the season, whichever it is, every day!

Looking out my office window this morning, I couldn’t help but notice that the Sun was playing across the light layer of snow that is on the trees and underbrush.

Snow Day

It’s looking nice out!

Yes, folks, Winter has officially announced her presence! After about 14″ (35cm) of snow on Thursday, it’s snowing again and will snow tomorrow. I’ll be looking for a bit of clearing up to get some great shots later! And there’s more on the way next week!!

During the week, you can expect that I’ll capture some new snow shots, but in the mean time, here’s a reminder…

Is Winter Coming Back?

While we have had some short spells of cold and a bit of snow, this Winter has not really put its stamp of frigid, icy control on us yet, here in New England. Of course, I may be a bit biased, as we had this epic Winter a couple of years ago, in which I went out to photograph amazing snowscapes in late January. None of that so far…

Looking at next week’s forecast, it looks like we may get a chilly turn with no termperatures above freezing and a bit of snow toward the end of the week. Could this be the true advent of Winter? I hope so!

This was the view out the window at work earlier during the past week, when there was a little bit of a snow tease. Enough to leave evidence on trees and grass, but lacking the true beauty that I would love to see.
