Tuesday Photo Challenge – Round Up 176

Gently flowing over the edge…

Welcome to the 176th round up of the Tuesday Photo Challenge! My apologies for being a tad late with this edition; it’s good that I love my job, as it can demand a bit much of my time once in a while!

You really put on a wonderful display of what Fall means to you! Your creative posts ranged from those that made me laugh out loud to those that made me just sit back and appreciate the great colors of the season! There were amazing waterfalls, places where you don’t want to fall, and a fall guy! Thank you for all the thoughtful and wonderful work that you put into all of your posts!

Here’s a waterfall that I enjoyed this past weekend…

Devil’s Hopyard Falls, East Haddam, CT

This waterfall is in Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam, CT; even though the amount of water flowing on this Sunday was not spectacular, the scenery still stands out, as the water flows across the rock formations.

  42. Khürt is right that it’s not quite Fall, as he states in his post in Island in the Net; his photo does give the sense of the season and I particularly appreciate Khürt’s use of shadow in this image!

  44. In a great post in Thief Images Photography Blog, we get a view of Niagara Falls that combines both Fall and Spring! Great shot!
  45. The leaves are falling in a great post in One Letter Up – Diary 2.0; it’s going to be leaf cleanup time later, but for now, we enjoy the color!
  46. Marie has an incredible backyard view that she shares in Create Space; those colors are just out of this world!
  47. Irene shares a peek at the beginning of Fall colors in her lovely post in Heaven’s Sunshine; the season will be wonderful!

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Focus

Welcome to week 177 of the Tuesday Photo Challenge! I’m still wrapping up the round up and will finish it on Tuesday night, as work is getting in the way…

As you created a wonderful week of Fall-themed contributions, I couldn’t help but wonder where I might direct you next… This week, my inspiration came from one of the images that I captured over the weekend, while visiting my good friend, George, who is an amazing photographer! We often go wandering to see what catches our eye (and lens). From the image in this post, I got the idea to use the theme of Focus, which, to my surprise, didn’t come up as a tag that I used before!

The challenge for you is to take focus into your preferred direction. There are many ways that you can take this: in focus, out of focus, a look of focus on someone’s face, you name it! Let your creative minds wander happily and keep your focus on the theme!

Bridge to…

During our wanderings in the Devil’s Hopyard, a lovely park in East Haddam, CT, we came across this lovely little bridge. While George was capturing it from one vantage point, I looked at it through this wonderful tree and thought that it might be interesting to shorten the depth of field and produce this image.

Icelandic Wonders – Myvatn Geothermal Area

Shades of blue

Iceland is a place filled with wonders of geology, as it sits at the intersection of several tectonic plates; its volcanic landscape and mixture of fire and ice make for stunning landscape photography.

One of the side effects of this location is the level of geothermal activity that provides energy for much of the country. From famous bathing areas, such as the Blue Lagoon in southern Iceland to this stunning blue lake in the north…

There are geothermal baths in the Myvatn Geothermal Region, but these are not them (as a matter of fact, just off-camera there is a sign warning of the extreme heat in this lake). In the distance, you can see the pipe crossing the landscape and see where the heat is collected for use by residents.

The stunning blue color of the lake is the result of silica deposits, which forms a soft blue mud and provides this stunning hue.

I will post more images from this area, as I continue processing them.

World’s Wonders on Wednesday – Iceland #01

The Gods at work…

As this week’s Tuesday Photo Challenge is on the theme of Fall, I thought it might be fitting to visit a waterfall. While going through some of my travel photos, I came across one of these from the amazing country of Iceland.

It took a bit of a clamber to get down to the level, from where I wanted to shoot this amazing set of falls that thunder down a semi-circular ledge; the view was very much worth it…

Waterfall of the Gods

This amazing sight is Goðafoss waterfall, which name translates to Waterfall of the Gods. This sight and sound of this much water flowing over the edge and past one’s feet is truly impressive. This is one of those locations, where I’d love to spend a number of days to get its beauty with various light qualities; the 30 or so minutes that I was there were just too short to do it justice.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Fall

Soft light comes to us

Welcome to week 176 of the Tuesday Photo Challenge!

After a week of living the City life, I think it’s time to go back to Nature for this week’s theme. As Autumn approaches in the Norther Hemisphere, I thought it might be interesting to go for a theme that riffs on that concept with Fall. In the American version of the English language the season of Autumn is often called Fall. What I like about this theme is that the word fall can be taken into other directions, from trip and fall to Victoria Falls and many stops in between.

So, I’m leaving the choice of direction squarely in your hands and create minds and eyes! Mostly, just go out and have fun with this one!! Can’t wait to see where you take this!

Muted Fall Tones

As many of you are aware, I like to experiment in my photography and, from time to time, will try something different to get more of a sense of the moment and surroundings, rather than a purely representational capture. By taking the aperture down to f/22 and going out of focus, there appears this rather soft sense of color over structure…

Glasgow is a wonderful city with lots of areas to explore; here, we were walking down one of the city’s oldest streets, Trongate, where this steeple is located.
