Experience the charm of the Wednesday Window at Husa na provázku Theatre, where art meets whimsy in Brno’s skyline.
Last week’s Wednesday Window took another look at Harpa in Reykjavik, which is an art installation par excellence! I figured this week might be an opportunity for another window, which is part art and, definitely, all installation! It’s an attention grabber in the wonderful city of Brno, Czech Republic.
Here’s a look at this window…
Goose on a String
This is a view of the facade of Husa na provázku Theatre in Brno, aka Goose on a String! The lady sitting in this second floor window hasn’t moved for years. The theater is dedicated to providing a stage for contemporary themes and unexpected formats, per its own description.
This is certainly a somewhat unusual approach to window decorations, filled with whimsy and fun!

Discover the beautiful views from Massa Marittima, a wonderful Tuscan hill town. Climbing the Torre del Candeliere is worth it!
After last week’s Travel Tuesday post with a bit of a puzzler, I promise that this one is rather straightforward! It’s a change from the low countries, which are mostly flat, to a much hillier environment. This image is from our 2017 vacation in Italy, which featured Ostia Antica, Roma and a number of Tuscan hill towns.
Here’s an image of one of these towns…
Massa Marittima Rooftops
It was a bit of a climb to get to this view, but it was so worth it! In the town of Massa Marittima, we climbed up the hill to reach the Torre del Candeliere. This tower was open to the public and worth scaling to get spectacular views of the town and surrounding land.
Also, when you visit this lovely Tuscan hill town, please go to Il Gatto e la Volpe for lunch (or dinner). My wife and I had a delectable lunch there and, as a special treat, were offered a not on the menu dessert made by the owner’s mother.
Join the celebration on Championship Sunday as Liverpool F.C. fans rejoice with the Premier League trophy presentation.
This is the day that we, Liverpool F.C. fans, have been waiting for over the past month! Yes, we’ve known for a while that we could not be caught in the standings, but it’s all about the presentation of the Premier League trophy to start the full celebration. This one will be even sweeter, as the last celebration was muted due to the Covid pandemic in 2020.
As I’ve had the pleasure of both visiting the city of Liverpool and attend games at Anfield, I wanted to share a couple of those moments with you.
This is where it all takes place…
The Sign
Taking the tour of Anfield is a great experience and a must for all fans! Where else are you able to touch the same sign that many players do, as they walk toward the pitch?
My first visit to Anfield was in 2019, during the first half of the season that saw Liverpool win their first Premier League title in a long time! The game that night was a tense affair…
Liverpool – Tottenham
Early in the first half, the Spurs took the lead 0-1 from a Harry Kane goal. In the second half, Jordan Henderson scored the equalizer and Mohamed Salah put us ahead in the 75th minute from the penalty spot. A great result and a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium.
And of course, there is the iconic moment before each match at Anfield…
Gerry and the Pacemakers with their tune from the musical Carousel…You’ll Never Walk Alone, sang by a stadium full of fans! I recorded this before the game of my second visit to Anfield in 2021. That night, we took care of Arsenal in heavy metal fashion with a solid 4-0 win!
In this week’s Travel Tuesday post, I posted a riddle about finding windmills in the posted image. There were several answers given and one was spot on!
In this week’s Travel Tuesday post, I asked the question of my intrepid readers about how many windmills they could find in the image that I posted. There were several attempts at this riddle and I am happy to say that there was one that was right on the money! Congratulations to Chris Breebaart! Please go visit Chris’ blog “What’s (in) the Picture?” where he shares his excellent photography!
Here’s the image that I posted, so you don’t have to go back…
Windmills Abound
There were several tricky bits to this, as some of the windmills are partially obscured and only parts are visible. As a matter of fact it was so tricky that my first attempt to answer the question was off by 1 windmill! However, looking at the source image and enlarging it quite a bit, I think that I found all of them.
Here’s my annotated version of the image…
Windmill Answers
The most difficult one to find is #10, as a little bit of it is visible through the capstan of windmill #9.
We’re restarting this series with a visit to the Netherlands, specifically Kinderdijk in 2022.
As I was thinking about what kind of post to put together for today, the idea of re-establishing a series of travel images might be of interest. So here we go, bringing back some of those moments that captured my eye and imagination. Let’s start this week with the country of my birth: the Netherlands.
Here’s a moment from travels back to the home country…
Windmills Abound
In 2022 I visited Kinderdijk, well-known for its abundance of windmills, for the first time. Even though I grew up less than an hour from Kinderdijk, the thought of going there never crossed my mind. After all windmills are all over the country with about 1,200 of them still remaining; once there were 10,000 of them, but technology has replaced most of them.
With this image I wanted to provide a sense of yesteryear, when 10,000 windmills would have dotted the countryside. I’m curious how many of you will be able to find all of the ones in this image…
In this installment we focus on Luxor Temple at night, a unique atmosphere created by dusk and darkness.
It feels like an eternity since I last posted an image from our amazing vacation in Egypt this year. Of course, time is relative, as the true eternity belongs to antiquity. This time I’m going back to one of the early stops in our travels, the stunning city of Luxor.
Here’s a lovely view…
Luxor Temple at Night
Getting to visit this temple complex at night is a privilege. The dusk and darker times provide an additional element of mystery and impressive atmosphere. In this view, we’re looking back at one of the colonnades toward Abu Haggag Mosque. This mosque is part of the temple complex.
A brief glimpse into my trip to China in 2023, as a street vendor prepares his grill for the day’s cooking.
As I checked to see how many photos I have posted from my business trip to China in 2023, I could only find a single post. I will look to remedy this, as this was an amazing journey! First of all, it was great to meet the team of people who I worked with in Beijing, as they are passionate, motivated and welcoming. They made my first visit to China spectacular!
Here’s a moment from one of the outings…
Preparing the Food
This moment occurred as we were walking toward the entrance of the Great Wall visitor area in Huanghuacheng. The sun was in our backs, so I had just walked past this gentleman who was readying his grill for the day. Because of the smoke, I waited to pass him and turned around to have the sun backlight the scene for this wonderful view.
I will share more images from the Great Wall visit in later posts; for now I will share with you that this area is stunning with its combination of wall and lake. It is a beautiful area and the mountainous landscape is a sight to behold.
A moment from my time in the Netherlands during 2020, appreciating the absence of early morning meetings.
After the heady heights of New York City’s skyscrapers in last week’s Wednesday Window post, time to get back to the ground floor. In this week’s edition, I’m back in the home country, the Netherlands! In 2020 I spent an extended amount of time visiting (good old Covid days), which made it interesting to work from there. One thing that I observed was that it was nice to not have meetings starting at 7 am!
Here’s a window-y look from that stay…
Wietze’s Window
During this time, I enjoyed the hospitality of my sister, Erna, and her husband, Wietze. Wietze has amassed quite the collection of interesting decorative elements in the outdoor party area, and this mirrored window is one of them. With the nice weather it was great to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and great company!

Last Sunday, one of the highlights was Vessel, a 150-foot copper-clad structure with 154 flights of stairs.
As I’m enjoying a relaxing Sunday, I thought it might be nice to share another moment from last Sunday. At that time, I was exploring High Line park and found some interesting photo subjects. Dinosaur was definitely one of those, and, of course, there is no escaping the Urban Landscape! Or maybe those high-rise buildings that act like Glass Pincers…
Here’s another unusual structure I ran into…
Vessel
The name of this copper-clad structure is Vessel, and it’s definitely an eye-catcher! It rises 150 feet into the air and has 154 flights of stairs with a total of 2,500 steps and 80 landings. And, yes, there is an elevator that takes you to the top, so you only have to go down those steps.
Next time that I am in the Hudson Yards area, I will make sure I have a ticket so that I can take some photos from different angles!
Sometimes all it takes is stopping by the side of the road to appreciate the stunning desert landscapes and warm light just before sunset.
This week’s edition takes me back to February of 2023, when I spent some quality time in Valley of Fire state park in Nevada. Arriving from the East coast at Las Vegas airport, I hopped in my rental car and drove toward Overton to check into my hotel. As it was still early in the day, it was exploration time!
Here’s one of the roadside vistas…
Desert Vista
As you can see, there is great landscape just about everywhere in this area, as I literally pull to the side of the road to take in this view. As it was January 31, sunset was on the early side, which made for wonderful, warm light across the desert floor.
Just another great moment to take in the view! Enjoy!
